MAC : MADONNA  AUTOMATED LIBRARY CATALOG

MAC is the online catalog of the Madonna University Library. It indexes books, periodicals, videotapes, government documents and many other types of materials that are held in the Library’s collection.

ON-CAMPUS AND OFF-CAMPUS ACCESS

Access MAC both on-campus and off-campus by going to the Madonna University Library homepage at http://ww3.madonna.edu/library.

Click on the Madonna Catalog link at the top of the homepage.

SEARCHING

On the Library’s homepage, click on the Madonna Catalog link. Click on the Search tab at the top of the page and the Madonna University Library Basic Search screen will load.   Basic Search provides both Browse and Keyword searches.  On the Basic Search screen, choose a type of search (i.e., Author Browse, Title Browse, Subject Browse, etc.), and type a keyword or phrase in the search box. Click Go.

From the list of results, choose an item (or items) to view by clicking on the hypertext link for the item(s). The records will be displayed on a single screen in a brief format. To see a more complete record, click on the title link for a specific item. The long format of the record will appear, defaulted to the Availability tab which provides the call number and location of the item in the Library as well as the status of the item (i.e., whether the item is checked-in or checked-out). To access the bibliographic details for the item, including subject headings and contents notes, click the Title Info tab.

The system also provides Advanced search mode. Advanced mode provides all the Keyword searches and three Boolean operator boxes (for And, Or, Not and XOr searches). It also has the capability of limiting by type of record. Finally, it allows you to sort your records by Author, Title, Media, or Publication Date.

Advanced mode has fixed search fields for all the keyword searches as well as the capability to limit by type of record. The sorting function is also available in this mode.
