Schoolcraft College product Jessica Austin (pictured) has signed to play at Madonna next fall.

LIVONIA, Mich. Head soccer coach Paul Thomas added to his recruiting class for the 2008 season with the signing of Jessica Austin to a letter of intent on Monday. Austin, who has spent the last two seasons at Schoolcraft Community College, will study special education and be a junior at Madonna next fall.

“Jessica comes with two years of collegiate playing experience which will be a benefit to the team,” said Thomas after the signing.  “She plays up front and scores goals and that’s why we brought her in. She is a proven goal scorer and I think that experience and tally of goals will help the team in 2008. She comes with a proven pedigree and I am excited to have her in the program.”

Austin, who prepped at Livonia’s Franklin High School under former Crusader Jen Barker, comes into the Madonna program after scoring 14 goals and adding 13 assists this season for the Ocelots. The forward ranked second on the team with 41 points in 15 games as a sophomore. As a freshman, Austin found the back of the net 17 times and dished out 12 assists to lead the Schoolcraft attack.

Austin, whose older brother Chris is a goalie on the Michigan State men’s team, is the second signee for Thomas this winter, joining Woodhaven standout Nicole Rodriguez who signed in November.
