Chelsea Shrewsbury (left) has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Madonna for coach Paul Thomas (right).

LIVONIA, Mich. – Head women's soccer coach Paul Thomas announced today that he has signed Chelsea Shrewsbury to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Madonna starting this fall. Shrewsbury (Milford, Mich.) is the fifth player to sign with Madonna.

"Chelsea can play anywhere in the backline," commented Thomas. "She reads the game very well, is aggressive and has great pace. Her soccer pedigree is also a great attribute as she has played at the highest level of club soccer and has been part of the Olympic Development program. Those experiences will definitely help her as she enters her freshman year."

Shrewsbury was an all-conference selection by the Kensington Valley Conference coaches as a junior on the pitch last season. She was also a "Dream Team" selection in 2007. A defender on the soccer field has also lettered in equestrian for the Mustangs.

Shrewsbury plans to study business administration and sport management at Madonna and is the second Milford player to sign with MU, joining teammate Allie Zemaitis who signed in January.
