GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.
-- The Madonna University men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie after
double overtime with Cornerstone University on Saturday afternoon in
Grand Rapids.
Cornerstone scored first as Chike Phillips picked up his third goal
of the season at the 9:54 mark in the first half off an assist from
Brad Verburg.
The Crusaders would tie the game early in the second half as John
Lulgjuraj (Farmington Hills, MI/Palm Coast HS) would find the
back of the net in the 50th minute for his first career goal at
Madonna.
Both the Crusaders and Golden Eagles would play an even match over
the next 60 minutes before the game ended following the second
overtime.
Madonna goal keeper Ryan Mathe (Ypsilanti, MI/Ypsilanti HS)
recorded two saves and allowed one goal against Cornerstone on
Saturday.
Senior forward Ryan Montague (St. Mary, Jamaica/Oracabessa HS)
led the Crusaders with four total shots, including three on goal.
The Crusaders, who move to 2-1-2 overall and 0-1-1 in WHAC play,
will return to the pitch on Wednesday in a conference tilt with
Concordia University at Greenmead Field with kick off scheduled for
4:00 p.m. (ET).
