SAN DIEGO, Calif.
-- Two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half by Madonna forward
Ryan Montague
(St. Mary, Jamaica/Oracabessa HS) led the Crusaders to a 2-1 win over No.
23 Bellevue (Neb.) on Monday afternoon at the Point Loma Nazarene Soccer
Classic.
Bellevue struck first at the 38:37 mark in the first half when a shot by Casey
Friend landed in the back of the net off an assist by Tom White.
With Bellevue leading 1-0 at the half, the Crusaders received a spark from
Montague when he scored on a breakaway at the 46:09 mark in the second period.
Montague would score again at the 56:48 mark in the second half off a pass from
Pat Griffin
(Redford, MI/Catholic Central HS) which led to another breakaway score.
Ryan Mathe (Ypsilanti, MI/Ypsilanti HS)
would keep Bellevue scoreless in the second half, earning his first win in
net for the Crusaders.
Madonna finishes its trip to California with a 2-0-1 record and will return to
action on Wednesday when the Crusaders host defending WHAC tournament champion
Davenport in 4:00 p.m. conference tilt at Greenmead Field.
