BOX SCORE
OLIVET,
Mich..
– The Madonna men’s team
took to the road for the second straight match, this time to NCAA Division III
member Olivet College and came away with a 2-1 win. MU (1-1-1) got goals from
Mark Pikula and Darrel Quinn in the victory.
The Crusaders had
the game’s first real scoring opportunity as Keith Seid saw his shot hit the
post in the tenth minute and just 31 seconds later, T.J. Djkoic saw his shot
saved by OC’s Ethan Felsing to keep the game scoreless.
Pikula got MU on
the board in the 25th minute as he took a pass from Quinn and fired a
shot in on Felsing that the Comet keeper could not handle, giving the Crusaders
a 1-0 lead.
Just over 16
minutes later, Quinn got a goal of his own, this one coming on the back of a
Doran Drai corner kick to put MU up 2-0 heading into the halftime intermission.
Coming out of the
half, Olivet started to carry the action and connected on a scoring chance in
the 70th minute as Mike May put away a pass to cut the Madonna lead
to just 2-1 with 20 minutes to go.
The MU defense
kept the Comets off the board for the remainder of the match, holding Olivet to
just one shot on goal and came away with the 2-1 win.
Quinn led the way
with a goal and an assist, while Kristofer Lyons made two saves in picking up
his first win of the season.
The Crusaders
have little time to rest as they jump right back into action Saturday afternoon
at Albion. Kickoff is set for 5:00pm.
