LIVONIA,

– Visiting Ohio
Dominican ruined the 2007 home opener for the Madonna men’s soccer team on
Saturday, taking away a 1-0 win at Greenmead Field. The 23rd ranked Panthers
scored the game’s only tally in the 82nd minute to seal the win.
The Panthers (1-0) carried much of the play through out the match, out shooting
the Crusaders (0-1) 15-10, including holding an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
Neither side could find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play but
MU had the first good opportunity in the second half as Keith Sied fired a shot
from the left side of the 18-yard box that ODU keeper Eric Pfiefer scooped up to
keep the game scoreless.
Ohio Dominican got on the board when Jason Hale corralled a Josh Fink pass into
the box and sent his shot in past a diving Kristofer Lyons for a 1-0 lead.
Madonna had two chances in the two minutes of the match with corner kicks but
could not find the net and fell by the 1-0 final.
The Crusaders will look for their first win of 2007 when they travel to Bethel
on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm kickoff against the Pilots.
