LIVONIA, Mich. - -
Head men’s golf coach Steve Mato announced the latest addition to his

“I am
very excited to have Nick join our program,” commented Mato following the

young man. He has the ability to come in and make an immediate impact and
establish himself in our starting line up.”
Sears
(Clio, Mich.) is in his fourth season on the varsity squad at Powers
Catholic for coach Robert Beach. He has also earned letters in hockey, helping
Powers to a state runner-up finish this winter. On the links Sears has been name
to the all-Big 9 conference first team twice, including this season. He was the
medalist at the conference championship this season, carding a 75.
As a
junior Sears was tabbed to the all-area and all-state first teams after helping
PCHS to a district and regional title and posting eight top-10 finishes to go
along with four medalist awards. Powers captured its district as Sears placed
third with a 75. Sears and his teammates move on to the MHSAA regional tomorrow
in an effort to once again advance to the state finals at Michigan State.
Sears is
the second player to sign with Madonna, joining Joel Cheesman (Canton,
Mich.) who signed earlier this month.
MU loses
just two letter winners from this year’s squad after finishing third in the WHAC
standings last fall.
