LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University athletics department presented 19 honors at the first-ever Blue & Gold Awards, held Sunday (Sept. 9) at University Center to recognize athletic and academic performance from the 2006-07 season. A total of five teams and 14 individuals were recognized.

Men's golf and women’s volleyball won the Male and Female Team of the Year awards.  Golf posted their best ever WHAC finish (2nd) including winning their first conference event, while volleyball captured their 10th-straight WHAC title and ninth trip to the NAIA national championships. The Mr. and Miss Crusader Awards went to John McCracken of baseball and Caryn Inman of volleyball and women's basketball for their all-around excellence in athletics, academics, character, and service.

The Female Athlete of the Year also went to Inman for her all-American season on the
volleyball court while the Male Athleteof the Year was given to men's basketball standout DJ Bridges for leading the basketball team to its best season in 13 years.

The Male Rookie of the Year Award went to Ryan Morrow in baseball for his inaugural season at MU which saw him earn first team all-conference and all-region honors. The Female Rookie of the Year Award was received by women's soccer WHAC Defender of the Year Andrea Johnson.

The Academic Teams of the Year were men’s cross country and women's soccer. The Scholar-Athletes of the Year were Shannon Noder of softball and Adam Kerfoot in basketball.

The One Shining Moment Award was presented to women's basketball for their upset of 19th ranked Davenport on the road in the WHAC semi-finals last season.
