Three Crusaders Named to All-WHAC Team

Nov. 15, 2004

LIVONIA, MI. -  The future is certainly bright for Madonna women's soccer as evidenced by three underclassmen being named to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference first-team today.

Junior Lacey Catarino, a team co-captain, sophomore Kelly Japowicz and freshman Loren Tacconelli were named to the team by WHAC coaches.

Japowicz led the Crusaders in offense this season with 11 goals and 27 points from the forward position.  Catarino, the team leader, posted a team high 11 assists while Tacconelli added six goals and four assists in her inaugural season.

After winning the regular season championship, Madonna head coach Mark Zathey was named the 2004 WHAC Coach of the Year.  It is the second honor for the fourth-year coach.

Representing Madonna on the WHAC second-team were freshman defenders Rachaelle Mirto, and Julie Turner as well as the teams lone senior, mid-fielder Danielle Strickland.

Madonna finished the season with a 11-5-4 record and the WHAC regular season championship.
