Lia Melasi and the rest of the Madonna women's soccer team were defeated by Cornerstone, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon.

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Cornerstone after the Golden Eagles netted two goals in just over a minute apart in the second half at Greenmead Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Crusaders (8-3-2) struck first when freshman
Kaila Moore (Howell, Mich./Howell HS) scored her fourth goal of the season on a ball that deflected off the goal keeper's hands and then the post before finding the back of the net in the 54th minute.

Cornerstone (11-0-1) came roaring back answering Madonna's goal with two goals in just over a minute apart.  Cornerstone's Sarah Kaufman scored the Golden Eagles first goal off a rebound at the 62:45 mark of the second half.

Lena Baldwin netted the game winner for Cornerstone off a breakaway at the 63:40 mark of the second half.  Baldwin dribbled  past Madonna goal keeper
Traci Anderson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) before shooting to the back of the net for the score.

The Crusaders out shot the Golden Eagles 19-10, including nine shots on target for MU.  Cornerstone had only two shots on goal, but both were put into the back of the net.

With the loss, Madonna falls into a first place tie with Cornerstone with just two weeks left in the regular season.

The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, in a 12:00 p.m. (ET) game in Ann Arbor against Concordia.
