Multiple Madonna University soccer players earned spots on
All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference teams announced in a press
release by the league office on Monday.
Senior
forward
Kelly Japowicz
(Harper Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS), sophomore defender
Andrea Johnson
(Canton, Mich./Canton HS) and sophomore midfielder
Caitlin Boyak
(Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) are All-WHAC First Team selections.
Japowicz is first on the team with 15 goals and is also the team leader with 34
points. The team tri-captain has played all 17 matches for the Crusaders and is
tied for the conference lead in game winning goals with six. Japowicz finished
second in the voting for conference Offensive Player of the Year this season.
This is Japowicz’s third appearance on the All-WHAC team, as she earned
first-team honors as a sophomore and junior. Japowicz was also
named the WHAC Player of the Year following the 2005 season.
Johnson not only earns the All-WHAC first team honors, but was also tabbed as
the conference Defender of the Year. Johnson has started all 17 games for the
Crusaders and has anchored a defense that has allowed only 14 goals this
season. Johnson scored her first career goal for Madonna on Oct. 10 against
Aquinas.
Boyak has started in 15 games this season and has scored two goals and assisted
on another score for Madonna. She is making her second appearance on the All-WHAC
Team after being named Honorable Mention All-WHAC as a freshman.
Junior
goalkeeper
Traci Anderson
(Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS), freshman midfielder
Lauren Hess
(Livonia, Mich./Ladywood HS) and freshman defender
Gina Leone
(St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview HS) are All-WHAC Second Team members.
Anderson has been in net for every minute of action for the Crusaders. She is
the conference leader in shutouts, recording nine clean sheets this season.
Anderson also ranks second in the WHAC in goals against average (0.82).
Hess and Leone have both made countless contributions to the Crusaders in just
their first collegiate seasons. Hess has seen action in 13 games for Crusaders,
scoring her first collegiate goal against Siena Heights (Oct. 17). Hess has
also added three assists for Madonna this season. Leone has appeared in 16
games along the Crusaders backline this season. She has helped anchor a Madonna
defense that has allowed opponents an average of 8.4 total shots per game.

(Highland, Mich./Milford HS) and sophomore midfielder
Loren Tacconelli
(Northville, Mich./Northville HS) have all been honored as Honorable
