Youth campers at Madonna University were treated to a
surprise Tuesday in the form of
former
WNBA player Kellie Bennett, who visited with campers
Tuesday (6/18/06) morning.
Bennett, who played for the Los
Angeles Sparks, spent time showing campers a few shooting drills and also
talked about her basketball career.
Bennett, who is UCLA's record holder in 3-point
shooting, played professionally in Germany, Israel and most recently with the
Grand Rapids Blizzard of the National Women's Basketball League.
Campers were treated to Bennett's stories about
traveling the world with various basketball teams and also the enjoyment of her
college years. After addressing the camp for about 30
minutes, Bennett took to the floor to show off the form that allowed her to set
numerous three-point shooting records in her career. She also worked with
campers on their shooting techniques.
The Madonna University Women's Basketball Camp,
which wraps up at the end of the week, teaches individual instruction including
basic fundamentals and is directed by Kristy Bilbie-Beikus and head coach Carl
Graves.
