CEDARVILLE, Ohio
--
Fourth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan built a 12-point halftime lead before
extending it to a 19 point advantage in the first two minutes of the
second half and Madonna would never recover, as the Wildcats
defeated the Crusaders, 67-52, in the opening game of the Cedarville
Invitational Tournament at Callan Athletic Center in Cedarville,
Ohio.
The loss
is the first for Madonna (1-1) this season as Indiana Wesleyan
(2-0) advances to the championship game on Saturday.
Martina Franklin
(Redford,
Mich./Redford Union HS)
led Madonna with a game high 17 points and six rebounds. Sophomore
Christie Carrico
(Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott HS) tallied 13 points to
score in double digits for the second straight game.
Freshman guard
Stephanie Piotrowski
(Petersburg, Mich./Ida HS) recorded nine points, all on three-pointers,
for the second straight contest.
The
Crusaders shot .500 (21-for-42) from the floor, including .333 (5-for-15) from
beyond the arc. The Wildcats hit 52.2% (25-for-48) of their shots on the night,
including 42.9% (6-for-14) from behind the three-point line.
Indiana Wesleyan out rebounded Madonna, 32-21, and grabbed nine rebounds on the
offensive end of the floor.
The Crusaders will now play No. 13 Bryan (TN) at 1:00
p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the consolation game of the Cedarville
Invitational.
