LIVONIA, MI - - Madonna University women's basketball head coach
Carl Graves announced on
Thursday (Nov. 2) the signings of two high school teammates
to letters of intent during the early signing period.
Joining the Crusaders for
the 2007-08 season will be Tabatha Wydryk
(Riverview, Mich.) and Sheryl
Jager (Riverview, Mich.), both of which are currently
enrolled at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Michigan.
Wydryk,
a 6-foot-1 guard, is a 2006 All-Catholic League selection. Currently, she
is averaging 10.9 points per game along with 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per
contest in her senior season.
Wydryk was also recognized as an All-Catholic,
All-West, Honorable Mention All-State and All-Downriver selection along with
earning team Most Valuable Player honors while averaging 14 points and 4
assists per game as a junior. She helped lead Gabriel
Richard to the league championship as a sophomore and was named
All-League, All-Downriver and earned the Pioneer Award.
"My staff and I are really
excited about Tabatha," Graves said. "She has exceptional talent and an
incredible basketball I.Q. She represents the type of student-athlete that
will become staples of our program and she may be an immediate impact
player."
Sheryl
Jager
is a 6-foot forward who lines up next to Wydryk every game.
She is a two-year varsity letterwinner in basketball,
averaging 3.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a senior. Jager
also helped her team to the league championship as a sophomore
and is a standout softball player at GRHS.
"Sheryl adds a new twist to
the Madonna family,” said Graves. “She will give some size and punch to our
line-up. She plays harder than anyone on the
floor and has shown the ability to handle the ball and do great things away
from the ball."
Wyrdyk and Jager represent the first two signing by
Graves for the class of 2007.
The
Crusaders
a season opening victory Wednesday night (Nov. 1)
with an 86-41 win over Rochester. Madonna will return to action on Friday
night (Nov. 3) in a match-up
with fourth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan at the Cedarville Invitational
in Cedarville, Ohio.
