GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.
-- The Madonna women's basketball team overcame a four-point
halftime deficit to defeat No. 20 Aquinas 64-63 Monday night.
Senior guard Lindsay Klemmer
(Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Salem HS) and junior forward
Martina Franklin (Redford,
Mich./Redford Union HS) each tallied 20 points for Madonna.
Klemmer also collected a team high eight rebounds.
With :04.2 left in the game, Franklin was fouled and drained the
back end of a pair of free throws to give Madonna a 64-63 lead.
Following a timeout by the Saints, Aquinas went to Jackie
Braspenninx for the final shot from 10-feet away which rolled around
the rim before falling out, securing a Crusaders win.
Madonna shot 40-percent (21-of-52) from the field in the game,
including 48-percent (12-of-25) in the second half alone.
Both teams combined for a total of 49 turnovers in the contest,
including 25 by the Crusaders.
Madonna will return to action on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14) at Siena
Heights. The Saints and Crusaders will tip off at 7:30 p.m. in
Adrian.
