LIVONIA, Mich.
-- Martina Franklin (Redford,
Mich./Redford Union HS) scored a game high 25 points and grabbed
14 rebounds to help the Madonna women's basketball team to a 67-65
win over visiting Indiana Tech Wednesday night.
The Crusaders trailed 34-30 at halftime, but outscored the Warriors
37-31 in the second half, led by 18 points from Franklin in the
final 20 minutes of action.
Indiana Tech trailed by just two points with nine seconds left in
the game, but were unable to get off a final shot attempt after a
strong defensive stand by the Crusaders.
Junior guard Cali Crawford
(Rochester, Mich./Oakland Christian Academy) scored 15 points
and dished out five assists for Madonna. Sophomore forward
Christie Carrico (Waterford,
Mich./Waterford Mott HS) also had a solid game for the Crusaders
with 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and one
blocked shot.
Madonna shot 38-percent (21-of-55) from the floor and 33-percent
(7-of-21) from behind the arc in the win. The Crusaders also
forced Indiana Tech to commit 19 turnovers but were outrebounded by
the Warriors 49-35, including 20-12 on the offensive glass.
Madonna will return to action Saturday, Feb. 3 in a 1:00 p.m.
scheduled start time at league leading Aquinas College.
