Madonna University women’s basketball coach
Carl Graves has announced the signing of Carleton
Airport High School standout Amy Walker
for the 2007-08 season.
Walker played for three years under Graves at Airport HS before he
took over the Crusaders program.
“We are very excited to have Amy join our program next season,” said
Graves. “She is an incredible athlete and a hard worker. She is
also a great shooter and pure scorer that can get to the rim and
plays taller than her 5-7 frame.”
Walker recently helped the Jets capture their first ever district
championship during her senior campaign and was named the team’s
co-MVP. She also averaged 11 points and eight rebounds per contest
in her final prep season under first-year head coach Casey McDowell.
Walker, who was called up to the varsity squad as a freshman for
Graves, plans on majoring in Elementary Education at Madonna.
“I chose Madonna because it is close enough to my family and has
what I am looking for,” said Walker. “I am excited to again be
playing for Coach Graves and ready to join the Crusaders program.”
Walker earned three varsity letters in basketball
and two varsity letters in both volleyball
and track for the Jets. She earned the team’s rebounding
award as a junior and the coaches award
during her sophomore season.
“Amy is a great person off the court,” Graves said. “She comes from
a great family and is another great example of the type of
student-athlete we are trying to bring into Madonna University.”
Walker currently resides in Flat Rock, Michigan,
and is the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Walker. She has
one brother, Bobby, and three sisters, Michelle, Elizabeth and
Meghan.
She joins early signees Tabatha Wydryk and
Sheryl Jager, both of Riverview Gabriel Richard High School, as the
first three commitments for Graves’ first full recruiting class at
Madonna.
The Crusaders (5-11; 0-1 WHAC) will be looking to even their
conference record as they travel to Indiana Tech Saturday for a 1:00
p.m. (ET) tip off in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
