LIVONIA, Mich.
-- The Madonna women's basketball team dropped their conference
opener Wednesday after Davenport cruised to an 83-63 decision over
the Crusaders at the Activities Center.
Davenport (13-4; 1-0 WHAC) blistered the nets from behind the
three-point line, shooting 45-percent (9-of-20) from downtown.
Overall, the Panthers shot 55-percent (30-of-55) from the field en
route to wrapping up their first conference win of the season.
The Panthers had five players score in double digits, led by Kristin
Bergsma's game high 18.
Madonna (5-11; 0-1 WHAC) fell behind early in the contest, trailing
by 15 points (42-27) at the half. The Crusaders never seemed
to recover as Davenport lengthened their lead to as much as 28
points before finally holding on to a 20-point win (83-63).
Lindsay Klemmer
(Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Salem HS) led the Crusaders
offensive attack, scoring 15 points. Freshman guard
Stephanie Piotrowski
(Petersburg, Mich./Ida HS) was the only other Crusader to
register double digits with 12 points, all of which came from beyond
the arc.
Sophomore
Alyssa Guerin
(Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Salem HS) led MU on the boards with
nine rebounds, including three on the offensive end of the floor.
Madonna shot only 30-percent (20-of-67) from the floor, including
just 23-percent (6-of-26) from behind the three-point line.
The Crusaders will return to conference play on Saturday, Jan. 6 in
their first WHAC road contest, a 1:00 p.m. (ET) tip at Indiana Tech.
