LIVONIA, Mich.
-- In this week of
Thanksgiving, the Madonna University women’s basketball team took time out to
give back by adopting a local family and providing them with Thanksgiving
dinner. The Crusaders dropped off the meal Wednesday afternoon.
“We are
using some of the money we raised through tips at a fundraiser we had to provide
this meal for a family in need,” said head coach Carl Graves. “The mother of
this family is a survivor of cervical cancer and underwent surgery for breast
cancer this week. The coaching staff made contact with this family of five on
Monday night to finalize arrangements.”
The
entire Crusader roster, joined by Graves and assistant coach Sandi Wade,
proceeded to a local grocery store and made purchases for a traditional
Thanksgiving meal including turkey, stuffing, cranberries and desert. Following
shopping, the team took the meal to the family’s home and presented the items
and took time to pose for photos.
“The
team was excited to take part in this and give back to the community,” added
Graves following the event.
The
Crusaders will enjoy Thanksgiving before jumping back into action on Saturday as
they will make the short trip down the Lodge to battle with the Warriors of
Wayne State. Tip-off in Detroit is set for 1:00pm.
