GRAND RAPIDS,
Mich. –
A
pair of Madonna women's basketball players reached double figures,
including a career high 20 from Rebecca Rufli (Fenton,
Mich.), but it was not enough
in a 67-59 conference loss at Cornerstone Saturday (Feb. 9)
afternoon.
Senior forward Caryn Inman
(Oxford, Mich.) joined Rufli with 16 points and three rebounds in defeat.
The Crusaders (11-14; 6-5
WHAC )
jumped out to what would be their only lead, 2-0, on a quick jumper by Caryn
Inman in the games opening minute before watching the host Golden Eagles (18-8;
9-1 WHAC) go on a 20-4 run to take a 20-6 advantage mid-way though the first half.
Cornerstone's 10-point
halftime lead was whittled down to four on a jumper by Alyssa Guerin
(Plymouth, Mich.) with 8:48 to go as MU tried to mount a comeback, but could get no closer as Cornerstone
made seven-of-nine free throws down the stretch to close out the win.
The Golden Eagles were
lead by Jenna Plewes who scored a game high 22 points and added nine rebounds.
The
Crusaders return home Wednesday night (Feb. 13) to face Siena Heights University
in the Activities Center. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
