LIVONIA,
Mich. –
Three
Madonna women's basketball players eclipsed double figures scoring,
including a pair of double-double performances en route to a 67-60
conference victory over the University of Michigan Dearborn in the
Activities Center Wednesday (Feb. 6) night.
Senior forward Caryn Inman
(Oxford, Mich.) led the charge with 19 points and 15 rebounds, including 10 on
the offensive glass while Christie Carrico (Waterford, Mich.) added a
double-double of her own with 18 points and 10 boards.
Junior Alyssa Guerin
(Plymouth, Mich.) also hit double figures with 17 points.
The Crusaders (11-13, 6-4
WHAC) stormed out to a 9-2 first half lead behind a pair of jumpers from inman
and a breakaway layup from Carrico, forcing Dearborn (12-14, 1-9 WHAC) into
their first timeout of the night.
The lead swelled to nine
points before the Wolves went on a 9-0 run of their own, tying the game and
19-19 with just over eight minutes to go. Dearborn took their only lead of
the night on a bucket in the paint by Nicole MacLeod to take a 21-20 lead.
MU was able to push the
lead to six points on a front-end free throw
by Guerin before settling for a four point halfime advantage.
In the second stanza MU
reeled off a 19-4 run to begin the half, pushing the lead to a game-high 17
points, 53-36, with 12:20 to play. Dearborn was able to whittle the lead
to as few as four points on the back of leading scorer Chanel Bridges, who
finished with 23 points to lead all scorers, but could not get any closer as MU
finished the game with four straight free-throws and the 67-60 victory.
The
Crusaders hit the road for their next conference clash, traveling to Cornerstone
University for a 1:00 pm tilt Saturday (Feb. 9) afternoon.
