Cold Shooting Dooms Madonna In Loss To AQ
Cali Crawford (pictured) scored 14 points and had nine assists in MU's loss to Aquinas on Saturday.

LIVONIA, Mich.A 23-rebound difference and just 30 percent shooting from the floor proved to be too much for the Madonna women’s basketball team to overcome on Saturday inside the Activities Center as MU fell 78-66 to Aquinas College. The Crusaders fell to 10-13 overall and 5-4 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action with the loss, while the Saints improved to 17-7 and an identical 5-4 WHAC record.

The Crusaders led just twice, with both of those leads coming with more than 17 minutes remaining, and saw Aquinas build out a pair of eight point leads in the first half. MU shot just 28 percent from the floor in the first half to 39 percent for AQ as the Saints led 31-27 after 20 minutes.

Coming out of the half Madonna cut the lead to just a bucket at 31-29 and again at 33-31 with 18:52 showing on the clock. AQ rebounded to build their lead back to 10 with 7:43 left in the game. After the Saints made it 70-55 on a Courtney Banks free throw, the Crusaders cut the lead down to seven with 1:09 left on a pair of Cali Crawford (Rochester, Mich.) free throws to make it 73-66 but that would be as close as Madonna could get, ultimately falling by 12 at 78-66.

Tabatha Wydryck (Riverview, Mich.) led the Crusader attack with 20 points, while Crawford posted 14 points and nine assists. Alicia McCarthy led AQ with 20 points of her own.

The Crusaders close out their two-game homestand as the front end of a men’s/women’s double header on Wednesday night as both teams will take on UM-Dearborn. Tipoff for the women’s game is at 5:30pm with the men slated for a 7:30pm tip.
