Coach Carl
Graves (L) poses with new Crusader
Jennifer Redmond at her signing day Friday (Jan. 11). |
LIVONIA, Mich.
-- The Madonna University women's basketball program signed their
fourth player for the 2008-09 season today (Friday, Jan. 11).
Jennifer Redmond, a 5-11 center from Temperance, Michigan (Bedford
HS) became the latest addition to a rapidly growing list of incoming
freshmen.
"It seems that we are making a weekly habit of signing a
talented student-athlete to continue their career at Madonna," said
MU head coach
Carl Graves. "Our coaching staff continues to
recruit the Monroe area heavily and we came upon the talents of
Jennifer through those efforts. We are very much looking
forward to see how she will add to our team next season.”
"Jennifer is a very talented player,” Graves continued. "She
will be a great addition to our post presence and we fell she has
the tools and ability to adapt to just about any situation the
college game will throw at her.”
Coached by Bill Ryan at
Bedford
High School, Redmond is a two-year letterwinner for the Mules. She helped lead
Bedford to Southeastern Conference and District basketball championships as a
junior. Redmond posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a
57-41 win over Adrian on December 6, 2007. Redmond has helped lead the
Mules to an 8-2 overall record including a 6-1 conference mark this season.
The daughter of Tom and
Darlene Redmond, Jennifer will enroll in classes for the 2008-09 academic year
and pursue a nursing degree.
Graves has recruited six players from the downriver and Monroe County areas
since he took over the reins of the Madonna women's basketball program prior to
the 2006-07 season. Redmond joins Ida high school standout Erin Bentley as
the second signing for 2008-09 from the Monroe corridor.
"Our coaching staff talked about recruiting this area from day one," commented
Graves. “There is incredible talent in high school basketball in Michigan, and
we feel there are hidden gems in the Monroe County corridor. We're working
extremely hard to make contacts throughout the state, and especially in Monroe
County."
Crusader fans who want a sneak peek at
Redmond's talents can catch the Mules in action January 15th at home when they
face Adrian at 7:00 pm.
