Amy
Szymanski #2Position: Defensive Specialist/Setter Height: 5-7 Class: So. Hometown: Redford, Mich. (Ladywood HS) 2005: Outlook Amy Szymanski returns for her sophomore season after appearing in 40 matches as a true freshman. Szymanski has worked hard in the off-season to develop her overall skill which could lead to increased playing time for the talented defender. One of the more reliable servers on the squad, Szymanski shined in the final game of 2005, when she served the final points in MU’s upset win over No. 1 ranked Fresno Pacific. With that confidence carrying over to the 2005 campaign, Szymanski should be a player to watch for the Crusaders in 2005. 2004: Freshman Season Saw action in 84 games as a true freshman in 2004 ... first collegiate game action came versus Notre Dame College in the UM-Dearborn Early Bird Invitational (8/24/04) when she recorded her first carrer assist and ace ... added her first college dig when she posted three versus Indiana Wesleyan (8/28/04) ... first collegiate kill came at Webber International (10/28/04) ... posted a pair of service aces in MU’s upset of No. 1 ranked Fresno Pacific at the NAIA National Tournament when she reeled off the final points to seal the match ... finished the season with 10 assists, 13 aces and 75 digs. High School: Comes to Madonna from nearby Ladywood High School where she was a three-year letterwinner...helped lead team to three straight district championships from 2001-2003...elected team captain as a senior...piloted team to regional title while being named to All-Area and All-Catholic teams. Quoting Coach Abraham: “Entering her second season as a Crusader, Amy is ready physically and technically to contribute as a starting performer. Coming off a fine initial season and an off-season that allowed her quality playing time, Amy is ready to make another solid contribution. One of our most enthusiastic and best team players who seems to thrive on clutch situations. Has the ability to play multiple defensive positions while bringing to the floor a quality and effective serve. Has the skill and ability to develop into one of our primary passers in serve reception. Amy loves to win and is playing with a whole new level of confidence. She understands what it takes to earn a starting position and she is on pace towards earning just that. Her ability to contribute in so many different ways on and off the court, will certainly make us a better volleyball team. A player well respected by her teammates due to her relentless passion for contributing at her highest level. Has the ability and skill to contribute in a variety of ways. Look for her to do just that as the new season unfolds.” Back to Roster
