Trio of Crusaders Honored For Classroom Work
Repeat selections Gatt and Szymanski joined by Fuelling in 2007

OLATHE, Kan. – A trio of Madonna University volleyball players were honored as NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes following the conclusion of the 2007 National Championship. The MU selections were junior Whitney Fuelling and seniors Jacqui Gatt and Amy Szymanski.

In order to be selected, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically and have a 3.50 or higher grade point average.

Fuelling, a first-team all-conference selection, has a 3.56 and is majoring in nursing. The Milford, Mich., native was third on the team with 459 kills this season.

Gatt, a Livonia, Mich., native and the WHAC and Region VIII Libero of the Year, posts a 3.77 GPA in sports management and led the conference with 889 digs for a 5.9 digs per game average.

Szymanski, a Redford, Mich., native boasts a 3.66 GPA in nursing and was the 2006 MU selection to the NAIA Champions of Character team.

This is the second season in a row that Gatt and Szymanski have been honored for their work in the classroom. All three of these student-athletes were also honored as members of the academic all-conference team.

Madonna, which earned its sixth straight trip to the national tournament this season, ended the year with a 35-12 record and captured the program’s 11th straight WHAC title.
