, Mich.Behind an sterling performance from outside hitters Lubovj Tihomirova and Mary McGinnis, the No. 20 ranked Madonna volleyball team swept visiting Siena Heights 30-23, 30-20 and 30-16 Tuesday night in Livonia.

Tihomirova led MU (22-7, 10-2 WHAC) with 18 kills, while McGinnis chipped in with 17 of her own to go along with three digs, a block solo and an ace as the Crusaders took the season series from the Saints (10-17, 2-8 WHAC) 2-0.

The Crusaders out-hit Siena Heights, .324-.129, but the Saints out-blocked MU 8-5.5.

Madonna slowly built out a lead in the opener using three service aces and five McGinnis kills to take game one 30-23. SHU tied the match at 10-10 on a Crusader attacking error but that was as close as the Saints could get as MU regrouped from the tie to build its lead and pit the game away on an Inta Grinvalds kills on a pass from Amy Szymanski.

Game two was different that game one as SHU took the early lead at 6-5 before MU mounted the comeback trail behind swings from McGinnis and Tihomirova. The MU duo accounted for 15 kills together as the Crusaders swung at a .378 clip in the second game.

The final game of the contest was all Madonna from the start as the Crusaders took a 2-1 lead early and never looked back in taking the third game 30-16. MU hit .333 and used 13 kills on just four errors to sweep the match.

The Crusaders travel to Indiana Wesleyan Friday and Saturday for a quad-match. Friday night MU takes on Georgetown at 6pm and wraps up play Saturday with a 10am match against Olivet Nazerene before facing the host Wildcats at noon.
