Whitney Fuelling posted 11 kills, four solo blocks and four block assists in MU's 3-0 win over Taylot on Friday night.

LIVONIA, MICH.The Madonna volleyball team swept through both of its matches on Friday at the eighth annual Julie Martin Memorial Tournament in Livonia. MU downed Davenport 3-0 in the opener and followed that up with another 3-0 blanking of Taylor. The Crusaders are now 7-4 on the year and host Georgetown tomorrow at 9:30am to open day two of the tournament.

The Crusaders rolled through the Panthers, using 20 kills from Lubovj Tihomirova and nine more from Stephanie Parslow to clinch the 3-0 win with scores of 30-20, 30-17 and 30-12.

Inta Grinvalds led the way with 44 assists, while Grinvalds and Jacqui Gatt chipped in with six digs each.

Taylor Match
Madonna was challenged in the day’s second match as the Taylor Trojans did not want to go quietly, pushing the Crusaders in each game. MU took control in each match in key stretches to take the match 30-24, 30-24, 30-26.

The Trojans took the lead briefly in the third game at 21-20 and pushed it to 23-20 before the Crusaders reasserted control in the game behind kills from Tihomirova and Whitney Fuelling to seal the match.

MU’s all-America candidateTihomirova once again led the way with 22 kills while Fuelling added 11 of her own. Grinvalds posted 47 assists while Gatt added 18 digs.

Madonna wraps up the tournament tomorrow, hosting Georgetown at 9:30am and Cedarville at 1:30pm.
