LIVONIA, Mich. --
The
seventh-ranked Madonna volleyball team is gearing up for the NAIA Region
VIII Tournament which begins on Friday, Nov. 17 at Indiana Wesleyan
University in Marion, Indiana.
Madonna (36-2) received a first-round bye after clinching the number one
overall seed and will await the winner of the Taylor/Indiana Tech match,
which is to be played on Friday at 5:00 p.m. (ET)
The Crusaders will begin their run for a fifth consecutive trip to the
NAIA National Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 10:00 a.m. (ET)
Madonna is led into the regional tournament by Wolverine-Hoosier
Athletic Conference Player of the Year Caryn
Inman (Oxford, Mich./Oxford HS) and WHAC Freshman of
the Year Inta Grinvalds (Portage,
Mich./Portage Central HS).
Inman recently became the sixth Crusader player in the history of the
program to reach 2,000 career kills. Grinvalds is the conference
leader in assists with 1,307 in her first collegiate season.
Last weekend (Nov. 10), the Crusaders won their third straight WHAC
Tournament title and earlier this season clinched their 10th consecutive
regular season league championship.
Head Coach Jerry Abraham, who is in
his 20th season at the helm of the program, earned his 800th career win
on Oct. 17, becoming just the second NAIA coach to ever reach the
milestone. Abraham boasts the highest career winning percentage of
any active coach at the NAIA level (.797 - 807-206 career
record).
