LIVONIA, Mich. -- The No. 8 Madonna volleyball team won its second straight conference match with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-21) sweep of Davenport University on Thursday night at the Activities Center.

Sophomore outside hitter
Lubovj Tihomirova (Riga, Latvia/Rigas Gymnasia HS) led all players with 14 kills on the night for Madonna.  Senior middle hitter Caryn Inman (Oxford, MI/Oxford HS) added 12 kills and six total blocks for the Crusaders.

Sophomore outside hitter
Whitney Fuelling (Highland, MI/Milford HS) led the Crusaders defensive effort with 13 digs.  Junior libero Jacqui Gatt (Livonia, MI/Churchill HS) collected 11 digs and led all servers with six service aces.

Freshman setter
Natalie Niblock (White Pigeon, MI/White Pigeon HS) recorded 35 assists and four block assists in a winning effort.

The Crusaders busted out to an early 8-2 lead in game one against the Panthers.  Inman extended MU's lead to 15-9 with back-to-back kills.  Tihomirova would add back-to-back kills of her own, forcing Davenport to call timeout with the Crusaders leading 18-10.

Madonna would stretch their lead to 23-10 with a couple of great defensive efforts from Fuelling before Tihomirova's kill ended a long rally and propelled MU to a 5-0 run.  The Crusaders would go on to win game one, 30-18.

In game two, Madonna again jumped out to an early lead, holding a 5-1 advantage over Davenport.  The Panthers would call timeout after Gatt found the center of the Davenport defense for a service ace and helped the Crusaders to a 13-6 lead.

Madonna would extend their second game lead to 26-13 after a 9-5 run by the Crusaders was capped off by a Fuelling kill.  Freshman defensive specialist
Anna Zorn (Fowlerville, MI/Fowlerville HS) served up the next four points for Madonna to close out game two with a 30-13 win.

The final game of the night began and ended in the same fashion with Gatt serving Madonna to a 6-0 lead behind the strength of two service aces.  Madonna extended their third game lead to 19-12 after
Alex Prieditis (Highland, MI/Milford HS) used a Niblock assist to plant a spike in the heart of Davenport's defense for a kill.

The Crusaders would close out the match behind Gatt's serving and a short rally that led to Inman posting the final kill of the night to secure the win.

Madonna improves to 13-2 and 2-0 in league play while Davenport falls to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in the WHAC.
Madonna returns to action on Friday, September 15 in a non-conference tilt with Spring Arbor at 7:00 p.m. (ET) in the Activities Center.
