The
No. 5 Madonna volleyball team won in convincing fashion at No. 24
Cornerstone on Tuesday night with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-6, 30-27) sweep in
Grand Rapids.
The Crusaders received 19 kills from senior middle hitter
Caryn Inman
(Oxord, MI/Oxford HS) and 18 kills from sophomore outside hitter
Lubovj Tihomirova (Riga, Latvia/Rigas Gymnasia HS) en route to
the first conference win of the year.
Freshman setter
Inta Grinvalds (Portage, MI/Portage Central HS),
who earlier today was named NAIA Region VIII and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic
Conference Setter of the Week, guided the
Crusaders offense with 46 assists on the night.
Madonna jumped out in the first game of the night to a 9-1 lead before
cruising to a 30-22 win. The Crusaders won game two in dominating
fashion after a 30-6 decision. Madonna clinched the match with a
30-27 win in game three, handing the Golden Eagles their first
conference loss this season.
The Crusaders improve to 12-2 on the season and 1-0 in WHAC action.
Cornerstone drops to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the WHAC.
Madonna returns to action on Thursday, September 14, when Davenport
University visits the Activities Center for a WHAC contest at 7:00 p.m.
