LIVONIA,
Mich. --
The
No. 5 Madonna volleyball team rebounded from a crushing home loss last
night for a convincing victory over Davenport University, 3-0 (30-6,
30-16, 30-12) and added another win over Taylor University, 3-1 (30-26,
28-30, 30-20, 30-26)
on day two of
the 7th annual Julie Martin Memorial Tournament in Livonia Saturday
afternoon.
Lubovj Tihomirova starred for MU after setting a career high with 29
kills versus Taylor. Senior middle hitter Caryn Inman added 23
kills of her own in Madonna's 3-1 win over Taylor to clinch the
runner-up award.
The Crusaders pounded out 83 kills in 158 total attempts versus the
Trojans and freshman setter Inta Grinvalds recorded a game high 66
assists in helping MU to victory.
Earlier in the day, Madonna received a combined effort from Tihomirova
and Inman for 28 kills and the Crusaders hit at a .420 clip against
Davenport.
Grinvalds and Natalie Niblock posted 14 and 17 assists respectively in
the win.
The Crusaders picked up a few pieces of hardware following the
conclusion of the tournament as both Tihomirova and Inman were named to
the All-Tournament Team.
Madonna (11-2) returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in their first
WHAC contest in Grand Rapids, Mich., versus Cornerstone University at
7:00 p.m. (ET).
