Crusaders Split on Day 2 at Great Falls Tourney

Inta Grinvalds was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 116 assists in four matches and helping the Crusaders to a 3-1 record at the University of Great Falls (MT) Tournament.

, Mont. -- The fifth-ranked Madonna volleyball team dropped their first match of the 2006 season in a 3-1 (25-30, 30-24, 24-30, 11-30) decision to No. 4 National American but rebounded with a 3-0 win over Minot State (30-22, 30-24, 30-14)  at the University of Great Falls Tournament on Saturday.

Senior middle hitter
Caryn Inman (Oxford, MI/Oxford HS) and freshman setter Inta Grinvalds (Portage, MI/Portage Central HS) were named to the All-Tournament team following the last match on Saturday.

Grinvalds finished the day with 38 assists against National American and 28 assists in the Crusaders win over Minot State.  Inman led the Crusaders over Minot State with 15 kills and eight block assists.

Juniors
Jacqui Gatt(Livonia, MI/Churchill HS) and Amy Szymanski (Redford, MI/Ladywood HS) led the defensive effort in digs with 21 and 10 respectively.

Lubovj Tihomirova (Riga, Latvia/Rigas Classic HS) led the offensive attack in MU's loss to NAU with 18 kills.

Today's match between MU and NAU featured a rematch between the two teams which met in pool play at the 2005 NAIA National Tournament.  NAU also won that contest, 3-1.

Madonna will return to Michigan and have time to rest before hosting the annual Julie Martin Memorial Tournament beginning on Friday, September 8th.
