Volleyball, Soccer Programs Earn National Rankings

LIVONIA --
With the 2006 fall season just days away, three Madonna athletic teams have
earned preseason rankings by the NAIA. The NAIA Preseason Top 25 for the
fall sports were released this afternoon with the Madonna volleyball, men's
soccer and women's soccer teams all being named in the release.
The Madonna volleyball team earned the highest preseason ranking at number five,
following a 48-2 finish last year which ended in the NAIA Final Four.
The women's soccer team also debuts in the top 10, earning 205 total points and
beginning the year at number nine in the country. In the final ranking of
2005, the women's soccer team was ranked 7th following a 16-2-4 finish,
including a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Madonna men's soccer team was also recognized by preseason raters, receiving
votes and sitting just outside the top 25. The men's soccer team finished
with a 16-4-1 overall record after a loss in penalty kicks to Bethel in the
regional championship game.
The Madonna women's soccer team will begin the year for fall sports with a trip
to Houghton (NY) on Monday at 7:00 p.m. The volleyball team begins their
season on August 24, hosting NCAA Division II foe Wayne State at 7:00 p.m.
Head Coach Tino Scicluna and the men's soccer team starts the year with a trip
to California to participate in the Point Loma Nazarene tournament on September
1.
