has been featured in the Detroit Free Press.
Irwin, who set the single season record for
strike outs with 275, helped the Crusaders to
both the WHAC regular season and tournament
titles.

Leads Garden City To State Championship
Crusader softball signee Hallie Minch (Garden
City, Mich.) capped off her high school career on
Saturday with a complete game, 14-inning win over
Alpena HS in the Michigan High School Athletic
Association Division I title game in Battle Creek.
Minch struck out 17 and drove in both GC runs in the
2-1 win.

Christina Finch has been selected to the
2008 Daktronics All-American Scholar Athlete
Team. To be selected, a student-athlete must

least 3.5 and be a junior or senior.

College (Ind.) with a 5-1 loss in the NAIA
Region VIII championship game Thursday afternoon.

over Indiana Tech early in the day.

LaMilza's Heroics Trumped by Bethel in Loss
The
MU softball team fell into the losers bracket
after a 5-3 eight-inning loss to top-seeded
Bethel College on day two of the NAIA Region
VIII softball tournament. Tara LaMilza hit
a three-run home run to give MU the lead in the
top of the eighth before Bethel scored five
times, including a walk-off grand slam in the
bottom of the inning to win. The rest of
day two was rained out and will resume on
Thursday.

The
top-seeded MU softball team rolled to a 8-0
(five inning) run-rule victory over fourth seeded
UM-Dearborn in the opening round of the 2008
WHAC Softball Tournament at University Field. MU

Tech 4-0. The Crusaders now await the winner of
Indiana Tech and Aquinas at 2pm tomorrow in the
WHAC finals.

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference office
released the 2008 softball awards late Tuesday
night on the eve of the WHAC softball tournament
and eight different Crusaders took home
hardware, led by Pitcher of the Year Jess

The awards were voted upon by the league’s
