LIVONIA, Mich.. -- The Madonna University softball team has announced an early commitment from high school senior Kelly Lesko (Trenton, Mich./Trenton HS) for the 2008 season.

Lesko has earned three varsity letters at Trenton High School and is a two-time All-District, All-Region and Honorable Mention All-State selection.  Last year, Lesko was also named All-League as a junior.  During her sophomore season, Lesko helped her team to a state finals appearance in Division 2.

“Kelly comes from a winning high school program,” said Madonna head coach Al White.  “She also comes from a great family and is extremely knowledgeable about the game of softball.”

Lesko has played summer ball for a couple of elite programs in the state of Michigan including Compuware 18U and the Michigan Devils.  Last summer as a member of the Michigan Devils, Lesko was named to the All-World Team (18U) as her team finished in third place at the World Series.

“We are happy to have Lesko join our team following her outstanding high school career,” said White.  “She is the perfect fit for our style of play and we look forward to her coming on campus next fall.”

White projects Lesko as playing both infield and pitcher positions during her career at Madonna.

Last season, Madonna completed its season with a 35-15 overall record and a 10-9 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  The Crusaders finished third overall in the final conference standings and lost to Cornerstone in the NAIA Region VIII tournament.
