FORT MYERS, Fla.
--
The Madonna softball team is 4-0 in 2006 after a pair of victories
Sunday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
Erin Brockert picked up both wins on the mound, running her record to 3-0
on the young season.
In game one,
MU extended their scoreless inning streak against opponents to 21 innings with a
1-0 blanking of Urbana (OH). Brockert went the distance, picking up her second
win in as many days.
In the nightcap,
Madonna rallied from behind for a 5-2 victory over Notre Dame (OH). Brockert
again picked up a mound win, coming in to relieve starter Shannon Noder.
Noder went the first five innings and left after Heather Richardson tied
the game with her first homerun of the season. With Brockert on in relief,
she helped her own cause with a RBI single, which proved to be the game winner.
Christina Finch's RBI base-hit and a steal of home by Richardson capped
the comeback.
With the sweep,
Madonna moves to 4-0 on the year.
The Crusaders are
back in action Monday when they face Cedarville (OH) and Ashford (OH) in a split
double-header beginning at 9:00 am (ET).
