- The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference office announced on
Monday that Madonna freshman pitcher Jess Irwin had picked up
her third WHAC Pitcher of the Week award. This is the second
straight week Irwin has been selected and the fourth straight week a
Madonna pitcher has earned the award.
Irwin
(Monroe, Mich.) went 5-1 on the week with a 0.89 earned run average. The
right hander opened her week with her second no-hitter of the season against
Siena Heights. Against the Saints, Irwin stuck out five hitters while allowing
just one runner past second base. On Friday in game one at Indiana Tech, Irwin
allowed just three hits while striking out 11 Warriors in an eight-inning
complete game win. In the night cap at Tech, Irwin came back in to record the
final out of the game for her second save of the season.
Saturday
against UM-Dearborn, Irwin was sparkling again in the opener, throwing a
complete game three hitter, striking out seven Wolves in a 10-0 MU win. Irwin
then game back in game two of the day, throwing five innings of relief, allowing
four hits in picking up her second win of the day and fourth of the week. Irwin
then wrapped up her week with a two-hit, 10 strikeout performance against
Aquinas in Grand Rapids. For the week, Irwin struck out 42 hitters in 31 1/3
innings of work.
The
Crusaders return to action on Friday with a double header at Cornerstone
starting at 3pm.
