Cat Sidor had three
RBIs in MU's 14-1 win at UM-Dearborn on Wednesday. |
DEARBORN, Mich. - -
The Madonna softball
team used a 14-run outburst in the second game of the day to salvage
a split in its WHAC opening double header at UM-Dearborn on
Wednesday afternoon. The split puts MU at 11-9-1 overall and 1-1 in
loop action.
GAME ONE
In the opener, Jess Irwin (Monroe, Mich.) gave up a pair of runs
in the bottom of the first on a home run and that proved to be enough for the
Wolves in a 2-1 win. MU got its lone run of the game in the top of the third as
Tara LaMilza (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) reached on a walk and came around after a
pair of sacrifice hits and ultietly scored on a passed ball to cut the lead to a
single run.
The Crusaders could not
get any closer and UMD held on for the slim win.
Irwin took the loss,
falling to 5-4 on the season.
GAME TWO
In the night cap, the Crusader bats woke
up, plating the game's first run in the second as Tedi Johnston (New
Boston, Mich.) came in on an error by the Wolves to give MU a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth, the
Crusaders tacked on five more tallies to push the lead out to 6-0. The big blow
came off the bat of Ashley Shay (Garden City, Mich.) as she hit a
two-run homer to score the fifth and sixth MU runs.
For good measure MU added
seven more runs in the top of the seventh, with Cat Sidor (Livonia,
Mich.) clubbing a three-run blast that gave starter Liz Ballinger
(St. John's, Mich.) more than enough support for her fifth win of the
season.
MU swings back into action
on Thursday in a WHAC twin bill at Siena Heights starting at 4pm.
