– Madonna University head softball coach Al
White has announced the signing of
Jessica Irwin (Monroe, Mich.) for the 2008 season.
Irwin will be joining the Crusaders softball program after a very successful
prep career at Monroe High School.
“Jessica is an outstanding
addition to our program,” said White. “She will make an immediate impact on our
team and we are thrilled to have a player of her caliber on our club.”
Irwin capped off her
stellar prep career by earning first team all-state honors following her senior
season. She was also named Monroe County and region player of the year, while
also earning a spot on the academic all-state team.
As a junior, she was named
first team all-district, first team all-region, first team all-conference and
all-state honorable mention. In her sophomore year, Irwin was selected first
team all-district, first team all-conference and all-region.
“Jessica has the ability
to dominate a game,” said White. “She will play a big role in our future
success.”
Irwin, who is the daughter of Rodney and Jennifer Irwin, is planning on studying
nursing at Madonna University when she enrolls in the fall.
In 2007, Madonna finished
the season with a 34-16 overall record and won their first ever
Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament championship. The Crusaders
were also the runner-up in the NAIA Region VIII Tournament.
