Madonna Cruises in Doubleheader Sweep of Rochester

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna softball team rolled over visiting Rochester in a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Madonna University Field.

The Crusaders (22-11, 7-3 WHAC) needed just five innings to take care of the Warriors (2-18) in the opening contest with an 8-0 decision.  Madonna went on to win the nightcap 7-1.

MU received solid pitching performances from both southpaw starters.  

Shannon Noder
(Lincoln Park, Mich./Lincoln Park HS) picked up the game one win after holding the Warriors to just three hits, while striking out four in the shortened contest.

Liz Ballinger (St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns HS) also threw a complete game in the nightcap, allowing just two hits and one run, while striking out six batters.

Hannah Godfrey (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott HS) led the Crusaders offensive attack with five hits in the doubleheader.

Godfrey also stole three bases, scored three runs and drove in one.

Samantha Bell (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion HS) recorded two hits on the day, including a triple in the first game.

Madonna will return to action Saturday, April 21 in a league doubleheader against Siena Heights, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Madonna University Field.
