LIVONIA, Mich. --  The Madonna softball team held on for a pair of one-run victories in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Concordia Tuesday afternoon at Madonna University Field.

The Crusaders (18-9, 5-1 WHAC) needed nine innings and a walk off RBI single by freshman
Brittney Scero (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) to defeat Concordia (5-16, 0-6 WHAC) in game two.

Madonna hurler Liz Ballinger (St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns HS) surrendered a two-run homer to Terra Russell in the first inning but allowed just three hits while working all nine innings and striking out five.

After a pair of runs in the first and second innings by the Crusaders, neither team could muster a run until Scero’s game winning RBI single in the ninth which plated Tedi Johnston (New Boston, Mich./
Huron HS)
.

In the opening game of the doubleheader,
Shannon Noder (Lincoln Park, Mich./Lincoln Park HS) scattered nine hits, allowed three runs and struck out three batters to earn her ninth win of the season.

Madonna held a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth inning before a two-RBI triple by CUAA’s Ali Nowacki and an error, which allowed Nowacki to score, trimmed the Crusaders lead to just one run (4-3).

However, in the seventh inning, Noder stranded a pair of Cardinal runners on base as she retired the final out of the contest.

Scero, Johnston, and Heather Richardson (Plymouth, Mich./Canton HS) all recorded two hits in the doubleheader.

Madonna will return to action on Thursday, April 12, in a doubleheader at Madonna University Field against Northwood at 3:00 p.m. ET
