Katie Boomgaard has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Madonna starting next fall.

LIVONIA, Mich. - - Madonna softball coach Al White announced today that he has signed Katie Boomgaard to a letter of intent for the 2009 season. Boomgaard (Holland, Mich.) will continue her academic and athletic careers at Madonna University starting this fall.

“We couldn’t be happier to get a player of Katie’s quality added into the mix for next season,” commented White following the signing. “She has been on our radar for a while now and will compete right away next year for us.”

Boomgaard is in her third year on the varsity squad at West Ottawa High School in Holland. She was named the team’s most improved player as a sophomore and led the OK Red Conference in strikeouts last season as a junior. Last season she was also tabbed as the Holland Sentinel’s Player of the Week. This season Boomgaard has posted a season high 12 strikeouts last week in a game against Zeeland East.

Madonna sits at 15-9-1 on the season and takes a five game winning streak into a non-league double header at Saginaw Valley on Tuesday.
