LIVONIA, Mich.

Caitlyn Sidor
(Livonia, Mich./Churchill HS) belted two home runs in
game two to help the Crusaders to a doubleheader sweep over
Cornerstone Saturday afternoon at Madonna University Field.
The Crusaders (15-8; 2-0 WHAC) defeated Cornerstone (9-11;
2-2 WHAC) 10-1 in six innings to claim game one and completed the
sweep by topping the Golden Eagles, 7-2, in game two.
The Crusaders pounded out 14 hits in the their first home game
of the season and chased CU starter Leah Gruppen from the contest in
the fifth inning.
Madonna plated four runs in the first inning and added two more
in the fifth after a two-run homer by
Christina Finch
(Adrian, Mich./Homer HS) before Cornerstone scored a run
of their own in the seventh. MU scored four times in the
seventh inning to end the contest via the eight-run rule.
Shannon Noder
(Lincoln Park, Mich./Lincoln Park HS) picked up the win
in game one after scattering five hits and allowing just one run
while striking out four batters.
In game two, the Crusaders again got on the board first with two
runs in the third inning. MU received three more runs in the
fourth inning after Sidor swatted a three-run homer to centerfield.
Cornerstone picked up a pair of runs in the top of the sixth
inning off a two-run homer by Lisa VanDerVeen.
Madonna responded in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of
solo home runs by sophomore
Tedi Johnston
(New Boston, Mich./Huron HS) and Sidor.
Sidor ended up with four hits and four RBI on the afternoon.
Liz Ballinger
(St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns HS) earned her eighth win of
the season after giving up six hits and two runs while striking out
six.
Madonna will return to action Sunday, April 1 at Siena Heights.
The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET in Adrian.
