Freshman Jess Irwin hurled her first
collegiate no-hitter, and first for MU since
Jen Tenyer did it in 2003.

COLUMBIA, Ky. - - Madonna University freshman pitcher Jess Irwin (Monroe, Mich.) etched her name in the school record books Saturday, striking out a career high 17 and recording her first collegiate no hitter in a 10-0 win over Midway.

The no-hitter is the first for a MU softball pitcher since the 2003 season when Jen Tenyer accomplished the feat.

Irwin was aided in the victory offensively by Ashley Shay's three-run homer and a 4-for-5 day from from Britney Scero and 3-for-5, 2 RBI performance from Tedi Johnston.

The Crusaders dropped their second game of the day, 7-1 to host Campbellsville.  Christina Finch went 2-for-4 while Scero continued her hot hitting with three more hits.

MU senior Liz Ballinger took the loss in game two.

The split sends Madonna to 9-7-1 on the season and 1-3 in the weekend tournament.
The Crusaders look to improve on both marks with a split double header Sunday versus Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville beginning at 10:30 am.
