Madonna Rolls to Fifth Straight Win in Doubleheader Sweep

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- The Madonna softball team picked up their fifth consecutive victory after earning a doubleheader sweep over Spring Arbor Tuesday afternoon.  Madonna (13-6) won game one 4-1 and then defeated the Cougars (3-13) 11-3 in five innings to claim the nightcap.

Shannon Noder
(Lincoln Park, Mich./Lincoln Park HS) picked up the win in game one after tossing a complete game, while scattering four hits and allowing just one run, a solo homer in the second inning.

Stephanie Day
(Livonia, Mich./Ladywood HS), Heather Richardson (Plymouth, Mich./Canton HS) and Caitlyn Sidor (Livonia, Mich./Churchill HS) led the Crusaders offensive attack with two hits each.

Sidor and Richardson each recorded a double and Sidor led MU with two RBI in the win.

In game two Liz Ballinger (St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns HS) picked up her seventh win of the season after allowing five hits and three runs in a complete game effort.

Richardson again led the Crusaders at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance with a double, a home run and four RBI.

Day, Sidor, Tedi Johnston (New Boston, Mich./Huron HS) and Hannah Godfrey (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott HS) all racked up two hits to help the MU offensive attack.

Freshman infielder Britney Scero (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) continued her assault on opposing pitchers by recording a hit in each game to stretch her hitting streak to 18 games.

Madonna will return to diamond on Friday, March 23 at the MCC/WHAC Challenge in Marion, Indiana.  The Crusaders will play three games against MCC foes on Friday, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
