CEDARVILLE,
Ohio --
Below freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills cooled down
Madonna's offensive output in a 2-1 loss to Geneva in game one, but
the Crusaders (9-6) went to work in game two, pounding out 15 hits
in a 9-1 win over Cedarville.
In MU's game one loss to Geneva (6-8), the Crusaders were able to
rack up 11 hits, but could only push across one run in the contest.
Freshman
Rachael Kethe
(Richmond, Mich./Richmond HS) scored from second base on
a single by junior
Stephanie Day
(Livonia, Mich./Ladywood HS) to even the score at 1-1 in
the fourth inning.
Geneva would score what proved to be the winning run of the game in
the top of the seventh inning after a wild pitch from senior
lefthander
Shannon Noder
(Lincoln Park, Mich./Lincoln Park HS).
Madonna's offensive attack was led by freshman
Caitlyn Sidor
(Livonia, Mich./Churchill HS), and sophomores
Hannah Godfrey
(Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott HS) and
Danielle Richardson
(Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer West HS), all of which posted two
hits in the loss.
In game two,
Liz Ballinger
(St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns HS) earned her fourth
straight win in the circle after hurling a complete game and
limiting Cedarville (5-11) to just four hits and one run.
Ballinger (6-2) fanned five batters in the win.
Freshman
Brittney Scero
(Canton, Mich./Canton HS) extended her hitting streak to
14 games after collecting three hits and driving in two runs in the
nightcap. Richardson also extended her hitting streak to a
team high 15 games after swatting a double in the fourth inning.
Juniors
Heather Richardson
(Canton, Mich./Canton HS) and
Christina Finch
(Adrian, Mich./Homer HS) joined Godfrey and Sidor in game
two by picking up two hits in the win.
Madonna will return to action on Sunday, March 18 in a 12:00 p.m.
doubleheader at Urbana.
