The Madonna softball team saw their record move to 3-3
overall after earning a split in the third straight day at the Tucson
Invitational Games.
Madonna earned an 8-2 win over Viterbo (WI) and then lost to Jamestown (ND) 7-2
in the second game of the day.
In the first game, senior lefthander
Shannon Noder
(Lincoln Park, Mich./Lincoln Park HS) pitched a complete game and
fanned a season high seven batters, while earning her first win of the season.
Madonna jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and extended their
lead to 4-0 after junior first baseman
Christina Finch
(Adrian, Mich./Homer HS) hit a solo home run in the third inning.
The Crusaders added another run in the fifth inning after an RBI single by
Mary Kate Setta
(Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea HS). MU capped off their scoring
efforts with three more runs in the sixth inning which chased Viterbo (0-1)
starter Alicia Hynek from the game.
Hannah Godfrey
(Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott HS) went 3-for-4 at the plate with a
pair of bunt singles to lead Madonna offensively.
In game two, the Crusaders fell behind early 4-0 to Jamestown (3-3) after the
first two innings.

Liz Ballinger
(St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns HS) retired the Jimmies in order in the
third, fourth and fifth innings before surrendering three more runs to Jamestown
in the sixth inning of play.
Freshman
Brittney Scero
(Canton, Mich./Canton HS) and sophomore
Danielle Richardson
(Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer West HS) each extended their hitting streaks to
six games. Scero led off the first inning for MU with a line drive single
and Richardson picked up a hit in her final at bat in the sixth inning.

Tedi Johnston
(New Boston, Mich./Huron HS) and
Heather Richardson
(Plymouth, Mich./Canton HS) all had two hits for the Crusaders in the
loss.
Ballinger (2-2) allowed 11 hits and seven runs while notching a pair of
strikeouts.
The Crusaders will return to action on Monday, March 5 in a 10:30 a.m. ET start
against Peru State (NE) at the Julie Reitan Softball Complex in Tucson.
