COMMERCE, Mich..
-- The Madonna men's soccer team advanced to the championship game
of the WHAC Tournament after defeating Siena Heights, 2-0, on
Wednesday afternoon at Walled Lake Northern High School.
Madonna picked up a late first half goal from senior forward
Pat Griffin (Redford,

Heights' defender and slipping the ball past the keeper and just
inside the far post in the 44th minute.
The Crusaders added an insurance goal in the 55th minute after
Doron Drai (Kfar-Yona,
Israel) found Emilio Giorgi
(Windsor, Ontario/Kennedy Collegiate HS) at the top of the
18-yard box before Giorgi blasted a shot into the back of the net,
giving Madonna a 2-0 lead.
Junior goalkeeper Ryan Mathe
(Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti Lincoln HS) recorded his team
leading fourth clean sheet of the season along with three saves on
the afternoon.

With the win, Madonna advances to the WHAC Championship game and
more importantly a berth in the upcoming NAIA Region VIII
Tournament. The Crusaders will travel to Grand Rapids on
