– The 2007 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference all-league teams were
announced today with four Crusaders earning first-team honors, headlined by
Newcomer of the Year Makesi Lewis and Coach of the Year Tino Scicluna.
Scicluna was named the
top-coach in a vote by league coaches. It marks the second time he has
garnered the award, also winning in 2003.
Lewis, a native of Trinidad,
was named the leagues Newcomer of the Year after scoring 11 goals in just eight
games for MU.
Joining Lewis on the first
team for MU were goal keeper Kris Lyons, defender Pat
Kolodziejczak and mid-fielder Doron Drai.
MU also saw a pair of
seniors earn second team honors as TJ Djokic and Darrel Quinn represented MU.
Dan Pichler was named by
league coaches to the WHAC Champions of Character team. Pichler earned the
nod after displaying the five core values; respect, responsibility, integrity,
servant leadership and sportsmanship, best among his teammates.
The Crusaders, who earned
the top-seed in the WHAC tournament by vertue of their regular season title,
will face off with fourth-seeded Aquinas College in semi-final action at
Greenmead Field in Livonia tomorrow.
Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
